This listing is for the 1975 Rock Music Awards medallion awarded to Glenn Frey as a song composer on the Song of the Year, Best of My Love, as seen above. This comes from the first ever Rock Music Awards show and Best of My Love was the Eagles first #1 charting song. This museum-worthy award is approximately 2 7/8" in diameter, approximately 1/4" at the thickest, and weighs a heavy 5 ounces. This beautifully crafted award comes with a letter of provenance signed by each of Glenn's brothers, Alan and Matthew. The one of a kind award medallion is still attached to the cord that is straight-pinned in the half presentation box with a black felt-like outer material and a cream satin-like inner liner as it was displayed in Nellie Frey's (Glenn's mother) house for 40+ years. The half box does show some wear while the medallion looks as sharp as it likely did in 1975. The first nine photos are actually only four different images shown both with and without the camera flash.
The Rock Music Awards were created by Don Kirshner (creator/producer of the 1970s Don Kirshner's Rock Concert TV variety show) to give rock it's own awards show due to disco music moving into the mainstream, and displacing rock music in general music awards shows such as the Grammys and AMAs. This award medallion comes from the 1975 inaugural Rock Music Awards show which was televised live on CBS-TV from the
Santa Monica Civic Auditorium with Elton John and Diana Ross being both the hosts and presenters.
